In Malta, all gambling activities are regulated under the Gaming Act, which grants the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) the authority to issue licences for both remote and land-based gambling operations. This Act replaced previous regulations, streamlining the licensing system by reducing multiple licence categories to just two: Business-to-Consumer (B2C) and Business-to-Business (B2B).
Under European Treaty principles, the MGA recognises iGaming licences issued in other EU/EEA jurisdictions. To operate in Malta, licensed companies must first notify the MGA and obtain an MGA Recognition Notice before offering their services.

What are the Benefits?
Although the recognised licensee remains regulated by the jurisdiction where the original licence was issued, rather than by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), all associated rights and obligations from that jurisdiction continue to apply. However, once recognised in Malta, the licence carries the same validity as an authorisation granted by the MGA for conducting gaming services, gaming supply, key functions, or any other approved activity within or from Malta. This MGA Recognition Notice effectively legitimises the licensee’s operations both in and from Malta.
